After LSU's 92-78 loss to Colorado in their opening on Monday, coach Kim Mulkey slammed her team. Angel Reese and Hailey Van Lith were no exception to her harsh remarks.
After a postgame outburst, Mulkey said only Mikaylah Williams and Sa'Myah Smith played well. "They did their best," she remarked. "True freshmen and sophomores. We need more than them to fight sometimes."
Tigers were ranked #1 nationally entering the season. They lost their first game in February and only two in the regular season last season.
I'm disappointed and shocked in some players I believed would be tougher and have more fight and leadership "Mulkey stated after losing to the Buffaloes.
"But I recognized our situation. We had our hands full with that many youngsters playing that many minutes in Colorado. Colorado accomplished what I expected.
"You live with poor shooting and a rough offensive night. Without guts, struggle, and physical play, I don't live. I doubt we had it tonight. This will not destroy us. Chicken Little predicted the sun will rise tomorrow, right?
Mulkey admitted that Colorado was a difficult opponent but worried that her team seemed to regress after being a national sensation at the 2022-23 NCAA Tournament.
