Draymond Green received the longest suspension of his career for choking Rudy Gobert

Due to his Tuesday night choke on Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert, Draymond Green will miss five games.

In the first minutes of Golden State's loss against the Timberwolves in the NBA's In-Season Tournament, there was a nasty brawl. At the moment of the risky play by the four-time NBA champion, there was no score in the game.

Gobert referred to the event as "clown behavior" and claimed he expected Green to attempt to get disqualified upon learning that Stephen Curry would be missing the game because of an injury. (Data indicates he is correct.)

Since NBA commissioner Adam Silver replaced the late David Stern, the length of the suspension is far longer than we have usually seen for an on-court incident.

The length of the punishment is "based in part on Green's history of unsportsmanlike acts" from earlier in his career, according to a statement the league released.

This was not just his longest suspension in his career, but it also has significant financial ramifications.

As part of the discipline, Green will also forfeit the most sum of money in his career: $769,970. His prior peak was $177,976 for acting in an unsportsmanlike manner against Domantas Sabonis in the NBA playoffs in 2023.
