PepsiCo Is Changing the Recipe of Pepsi Zero Sugar
No more zero-sugar Pepsi. The Coke isn't going away—it's just tasted better.
PepsiCo launched a new Pepsi Zero Sugar recipe with a "new sweetener system" to give consumers a "more refreshing and bolder taste profile"
Food Dive reports that the latest version lacks ginseng and has the same caffeine as ordinary Pepsi.
The source observed that the recipe adjustment coincides with consumers' sugar reduction efforts.
Consumer preference study found that the new Pepsi Zero Sugar "outpaces the old formula across the board."
The soda giant said consumers stated the new soft drink is more refreshing, flavorful, and smooth with a "real cola taste."
"Our R&D team leveraged the best new beverage technology to upgrade our Pepsi Zero Sugar product to give fans the best tasting cola in the zero-sugar category,"
Pepsi's chief marketing officer Todd Kaplan stated in a press release. "The product is truly a breakthrough as it is the best zero sugar cola we've ever had – period."
CNN said that Coke Zero Sugar outperformed Pepsi Zero Sugar. While Coke's zero-sugar soda sold almost 4%, Pepsi's sold less than 1%.
Pepsi will run multiple ads to promote its new release, including national TV spots during the NFL playoffs and a new Super Bowl campaign
