5 Daily Habits That Are Destroying Your Knee

Unless you have a knee accident or constant knee pain, it's likely that you don't think about your knees all that much.

But the habits and tasks you do in and out of the gym can have a huge effect on the health of your knees as a whole.

Your knees are protected by many muscles in your body, but your hips and quads are especially important.

Even things like getting up from a chair, walking on rough ground, sitting too much, and going up and down stairs can wear out your knees.

1. Hyperextending

To avoid hyperextension at all costs, make sure to use your lower quads, which are right above your kneecaps, whenever you stand up or do movements that require you to straighten your legs.

2. Not utilizing your glute

When you get up from a chair, you probably do it without thinking about it. Your hips probably aren't the first thing you think of when you do that.

3. Sitting for long periods of time

If you've ever heard the saying "sitting is the new smoking," you already know that a sedentary lifestyle or not getting up to move and stretch at your desk job can be bad for your general health.

4. Improper knee-to-hip alignment

If you want to protect your knees, you should start paying attention to how your knees and hips are aligned right away.

5. Wearing footwear with poor support

If your knees, legs, and feet aren't in the right place when you walk or stand, your body will try to make up for it by putting more stress on your bones and joints, especially your knees.
