Kelly Clarkson honored Lainey Wilson in her latest Kellyoke segment. Her band covered CMA Entertainer of the Year winner's beautiful nostalgia song “Watermelon Moonshine”. View her flawless performance here.
Fans witness Clarkson's variety in Kellyoke segments, which is fascinating. She excels at covering pop, country, and Christmas songs. The award-winning performer and talk show host sometimes looks the part. She sang “Watermelon Moonshine.”
For the performance, Clarkson wore a vintage blouse and bell-bottom pants to honor Wilson. Her twang didn't match the “Wildflowers and Wild Horses” singer's. Instead, she showed off her clear voice.
Wilson told American Songwriter about the tune earlier this year. “It’s about young, wild, crazy love. Your time when nothing else matters, she said.
“You had that bottle of something in the backseat, drank it, and hoped your parents didn't smell it when you walked through the house,” she said. “I laugh and shake my head. Although naïve, it was a beautiful love.
"During this busy season of my life, I want to write about things that ground me," she remarked. Wilson said, “You can't help but listen to ‘Watermelon Moonshine' and think about that one person you were madly in love with.”
Recently, several of Wilson's ex-boyfriends have claimed to be the song's topic. Even her short-term boyfriends have claimed it.
She addressed prior flings in a recent interview. Boy, you're right if that butters your biscuit and makes you feel wonderful. I wrote about you.”
