Louisiana State's 73-50 triumph over Southeaster Louisiana Friday night didn't feature NCAA women's basketball tournament MVP Angel Reese. Reese wasn't on the team.
Three days earlier, Reese was benched for the second half of a win over Kent State. Reese was benched by LSU coach Kim Mulkey, who declined to explain why.
Her benching and absence have sparked rumors, but Reese advised supporters not to believe them. Reese is reportedly academically struggling and suspended.
“Please don’t believe everything you read,” Reese tweeted Sunday on Twitter, formerly X. Mulkey was evasive regarding the star forward after the game versus Southeastern Louisiana.
Angel wasn't uniformed, Mulkey told reporters. Angel is on this basketball team, so we hope to see her soon.” Mulkey stopped a reporter from asking more.
“I’m not gonna answer any more, that’s it, that’s all y’all need to know,” she said.
Although Reese hasn't addressed the drama, former and current LSU players have discussed it on social media. Reese and the program are being criticized by players' parents.
After a 92-78 loss to Colorado in their season opener, Reese's benching and whereabouts are in question. The Tigers have won five straight since then, but something is amiss.
